[October 2023] The prices of 23 cheap hotels in Osaka Nishinari recommended by YouTubers.

Nishinari is famous for being a skid row in Osaka. However, Nishinari has recently become popular among foreign tourists as an area where many hotels with low accommodation rates are gathered. In Nishinari, I’ll introduce cheap hotels and locations recommended by YouTubers, and their current prices as of early October 2023.

Nishinari is an area with many low-cost accommodations. Nearby tourist attractions include Osaka Shinsekai and Dobutsuen-mae Shopping Street.

These are the business hotels and locations in Osaka city where I actually stayed in August 2021 during the coronavirus pandemic (including Nishinari Hotel).

Most recommended business hotel in Nishinari

If you have the budget, I recommend staying at NAMBA EBISU HOTEL.

NAMBA EBISU HOTEL

Unlike other Nishinari hotels, the comfort is exceptional. However, the accommodation fee is more than double that of a typical Nishinari hotel. For details, please see the article General business hotel list mentioned above.

Standards/conditions

The Nishinari Hotel standards and conditions introduced in this article are basically set as follows.

• Recommended by YouTuber
• Accommodation fees are generally up to 3,000 yen on weekdays.
• Private room
• Air conditioner and refrigerator available
• There are shared toilet, shower and kitchen.

Although it is called a budget hotel, it is a facility where tourists can stay normally. This article excludes dirty and dilapidated living quarters where the majority of guests are on welfare.

Accommodation rates are based on the results of a search on Agoda using the following conditions.

• Search date
  Sunday, October 1, 2023
  （Search on the first Sunday of the month）
• Scheduled stay date
  Thursday, October 5, 2023 One night
  Saturday, October 7, 2023 One night
  （First Thursday and Saturday of the month）

I did this because most hotels have a big difference in rates between weekdays and holidays, and in Osaka, prices tend to get cheaper the closer you go. If the scheduled stay date is fully booked, I’ll search for the same day of the week next week instead.

Exchange rate

The exchange rate (according to Google Finance) on October 3, 2023, when I checked exchange rate, was 149.76 yen to 1 USD. WISE exchange rate is also the same at 149.78(JPY/USD). Agoda’s hotel fee (JPY) are expressed in USD using the above exchange rate of 149.76.

Please note that there are actually fees charged when sending money overseas with WISE, but these are not taken into consideration. For example, the THB exchange value when remitting 100 USD will be as follows.

• 100USD – 0.13USD(other fee) -2.43USD(WISE fee) = 14595JPY

Cheap hotel rates in Osaka Nishinari

The cost per night at the budget hotels featured in this article is as follows.

• Weekday: ¥1,900 〜 ¥2,800 ($12.69 〜 $18.70)
• Holiday: ¥2,800 〜 ¥6,400 ($18.70 〜 $42.74)

Generally speaking, accommodation rates at hotels are up to 2,800 yen on weekdays, but some hotels are outside this range as there were hotels whose holiday rates were more than double that on weekdays.

ホテル サンプラザ (Hotel Sunplaza)

Located right next to JR Shin-Imamiya Station and Nankai Electric Railway Shin-Imamiya Station. It is very convenient as there is a cheap supermarket called Tamade within 50 meters from the station. However, the downside is that you can always hear the sound of trains running and station announcements. There is an open-air bath with a view on the rooftop.

There are Japanese and Western rooms, and the rooms are about 3 tatami mats in size. The room is clean, but it has a unique smell, so it may be a little harsh for people who don’t like it. Looking at Agoda’s latest (summer 2023) reviews, there are many opinions like the above.

It is located about a 2-minute walk from JR Shin-Imamiya Station, Nankai Electric Railway Shin-Imamiya Station, and Osaka Subway Dobutsuen-mae Station. It’s very close to ホテル サンプラザ (Hotel Sunplaza), but it’s further away from the station platform, so the noise from trains and station announcements is better. You can use the large public bath at ホテル ジパング (Hotel Zipangu), which is an affiliated store next door.

There are Japanese and Western rooms, and the rooms are about 3 tatami mats in size. The rest is almost the same as ホテル サンプラザ (Hotel Sunplaza), but it’s a little cleaner and has less of a unique smell. Looking at Agoda’s latest (Summer 2023) reviews, there are many opinions like the above.

Some of the rooms have been renovated, and the prices don’t seem to have changed, so if they’re available, it’s a good idea to stay there.

It is conveniently located near the entrance of the Dobutsuen-mae shopping street (Chinese Karaoke Izakaya Street). Although it has a similar name to ホテル サンプラザ2 ANNEX (Hotel Sunplaza2 Annex) and is part of the same chain, please note that the location is slightly different. There is less noise here since there is no train noise. There is a large public bath. Everything else is basically the same as ホテル サンプラザ2 ANNEX (Hotel Sunplaza2 Annex).

The hotel name is South Building, and the reservation site is separate from ホテル来山北館 (Hotel Raizan North South Namba), but it seems like they are in the same building, just on different floors.

According to the YouTuber’s information, the amenities include toothbrushes, towels, nightwear, and disposable slippers, which is abundant for a Nishinari hotel.

Although the room rate is a little higher than other Nishinari hotels, I recommend it as there are many shower rooms and toilets and it is clean.

Located right next to Dobutsuen-mae Station on the Osaka Subway. It is located almost across the street from ホテル東洋 (Backpackers Hotel Toyo). It is conveniently located near the entrance of the Dobutsuen-mae shopping street (Chinese Karaoke Izakaya Street). There is a large public bath.

The reviews on Agoda are high, and the room rates and amenities are better than other Nishinari hotels, so it looks pretty good.

ホテル新今宮 (Hotel Shin Imamiya)

Capsule rooms are the cheapest, but it is best not to share a room at Nishinari Hotel as there are various risks. Economy single rooms are the cheapest and come with a work desk, but the room rate is higher than other Nishinari hotels, and the reviews on Agoda are bad, so it’s a bit questionable. There is also a renovated economy single room, and the room is as clean and well-equipped as a business hotel, so it seems worth it.

There is a large public bath.

The Agoda reviews are pretty good, the room rates are cheaper than other Nishinari hotels, and the rooms are clean, so the cost performance seems good.

I’m concerned that there are many bad reviews on Agoda. The building is old and the accommodation rates are not cheap compared to other Nishinari hotels, so there is no reason to choose this hotel.

Located right next to Imaike Station on the Hankai Electric Tramway. Osaka Subway Dobutsuen-mae Station is also nearby, so I think it would be better to use that when traveling within Osaka city.

It’s far away from the area where other Nishinari hotels are concentrated, and the area around the hotel feels like a local area for Nishinari residents, but there’s a Nishinari Police Station behind the hotel, so I feel a little safer. It’s conveniently located right next to Super Tamade and close to the Dobutsuen-mae shopping street (Chinese Karaoke Izakaya Street).

Looking at the photos on Agoda, the rooms are clean and have showers, and the room rate is a little cheaper than other Nishinari hotels, so it seems like a good value for money. However, the reviews on Agoda are not very good, so it’s a bit questionable.

Sum up

It’s difficult to judge Nishinari Hotel just by looking at photos and reviews on Agoda, but it’s hard to say without actually staying there. Based on my experience, I personally recommend the following two Nishinari hotels.

• ホテル サンプラザ2 ANNEX (Hotel Sunplaza2 Annex)
• ホテル東洋 (Backpackers Hotel Toyo)

However, depending on the day, the accommodation fee may be more expensive, so in that case, I think it would be better to stay at another Nishinari hotel. I don’t think there are any particularly good Nishinari hotels so far, so it’s best to choose on a case-by-case basis.
